Kitsune is a very special boy, who lives with a very special girl! Katy's mom
came to me a year or so ago, and told me that Katy really wanted to get a Somali
to show in 4-H, and in CFA's premiership class. Katy's family breeds and shows
Tonkinese, and her mom offered her any kitten she wanted from their current litters,
but Katy wanted a SOMALI. (Smart girl!) We had a litter of kittens born in
December of 2005, and I told Debi that Katy could come and pick her kitten from
that litter, once they'd had their first vaccinations. The litter had two males,
and three females in it. Katy picked her kitten on that first visit, and never
wavered from her choice, in subsequent visits. She continued to go right to the
SAME kitten, even though her mom and sister couldn't tell the two boys apart!
Much to my dismay, Katy has excellent taste in Somalis, and chose the pick of the
litter - and stuck with him! He would definitely have been a part of our breeding
program, if Katy had chosen another kitten... :-)
Katy showed Kitsune at several shows as a kitten, earning finals at every show.
He moved into the premiership class this fall, and granded very quickly at two
shows, on subsequent weekends. (And Debi had wondered if he would be able to
grand...)
Kitsune went to the CFA International show in November, and competed in a very
tough class of Somalis, in the premiership class. Four grand premiers, with the
other three all older and more mature than he was. He ended up being the best
Somali in premiership, after a tough competition over three days. And in addition,
he was also judged as the best Somali overall, competing against the best Somali
kitten, and the best Somali in championship; to earn that honor. He went on to
represent the Somali breed in the Catminster competition that was being filmed
for the game show network, and we are all looking forward to seeing his moment
of stardom, when the show airs in late March of 2007.
We are so very proud of Katy and Kitsune, and have thoroughly enjoyed watching
them at the shows so far this season. It's obvious to all who watch them, that
they truly have a special relationship, and Kitsune couldn't have a better (or
happier!) home. And hopefully we'll have one more award to celebrate at the end
of the show season!
Update May 2007 - with the 2006-07 show season just completed, we are so very
proud of Katy and Kitsune, as he has earned the title of regional winner. He was
the 16th best cat in premiership, in the Northwest Region!
