Masquerade was a surprise addition to our Somali household.
She was every bit as active as the Somalis, contrary to popular myth.
She was actually the only cat in the household that our first stud cat
woudl back down from - she just raised that little seal-point mitten
at him, gave him "the look", and away he went!
Masquerade was shown in premiership during the 1998-99 show
season, and was truly a delight to show. She earned the title
of "Regional Winner", finishing the season as the Northwest
Region's 9th best cat in premiership. She was the 2nd highest
scoring Persian in premiership in our region, and the 3rd
highest scoring Himalayan nationally, in premiership.
Masquerade was a very special girl in our household, and in addition
to teaching me how to show groom a Persian, she taught many litters of
Somali kittens that the big puff ball lying on the couch really WAS a
cat! It was always entertaining to watch kittens discover that she wasn't
a stuffed pillow, the first time they were out exploring the house.
Masquerade was one of the sweetest Persians I've ever met, and it was
a joy to share our lives with her for almost ten years. Unfortunately,
she left us way too soon, in May of 2007 - just three short months after
we lost Sebastian.
In the midst of all the Somalis in our house, there is a very large
hole, where one very special seal-point Himi is greatly missed.
